The goal of this professional learning plan is to provide resources to pre-K to kindergarten teachers that will help them to incorporate literacy strategies into their existing curriculum. This plan is designed to be implemented within a term of ongoing components that allow the learners to collaborate with a coach to determine each learner’s individual needs. Learners will decide which strategies will facilitate reaching the goals that are necessary for increasing literacy in the existing learning environment. Each participant will create a professional learning plan that will contain personal goals, literacy strategies, assessments, resources and support needed, and projected dates the coach would come to provide modeling and observations to support implementation by using this (click here) Environmental Assessment Tool for Professional Learning Plan as a guide.
Learning Goals | Assessments | Learning Activities |
Foundational Knowledge –
Learners will identify their strengths (personal skills), and weaknesses (things that need improvement) in their knowledge of literacy. |
Learners will construct an outline of their personal knowledge of literacy. | After creating outline learners will be given a descriptive list of strategies that are available in the training to select from that would be helpful to use in their professional learning. |
Application-
Learners will identify needs of the students within the learning environment. |
Learners will be given a survey of the current skills that are possessed by students. | Learners will gather samples from students that are currently enrolled to use in assessment phase of training. |
Integration 1-
Learners will be able to observe the literacy strategies being model within the learning environment with school administration present.
|

Integration 2-
Learners will identify what skills their students have mastered before moving to a new strategy. |
Learner will do an observational assessment of students in the learning environment and review them with the coach and school administration giving and getting feedback to address effectiveness. | Learner will provide a variety of open-ended learning opportunities for students would access freely while being observed by learner. Learner should interact with student’s thorough inquiry to generate observational assessment. |
Integration 3-
School administrators would observe a presentation of the incorporated strategies. |
Learner would create a report of overall class progress to present to school administration. | Learner would allow students to prepare a project for school administrators to show class progress |
Human Dimension/Caring –
Learner will have the ability to receive technical support during the implementation through emailed questions within 24 hours for any immediate concerns. |
Discussions in the form of emailed reply or phone contact to provide a timely resolution. | Reference to supplied resources of strategies i.e., printed material and videos are encouraged. |
Learning How to Learn –
Learners should be aware of the overall progress of students in the class. |
Learners will keep a record of monthly assessments, support issues, and observational assessments of students for coach to readily access. | Learners will use the recorded progress of strategies to fully implement literacy innovation plan. |
